Sur, The food in smell form
The entities of Sur Offering: Sur is not incense but a type of food that exists as a form of smell. There are four types of recipients: Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, Dharma Protectors, sentient beings of the six realms, and entities with karmic debts. The latter group specifically offers Sur to sentient beings in the intermediate state, who sustain themselves with this scented food. Benefits of Sur Offerings: Jamgon Mipham Rinpoche said, “Sur offerings are a special practice to remove obstacles and perfect the virtue of generosity. Anyone can perform this practice. It is especially helpful in places where people or livestock are being harmed by negative forces, and where greed and selfishness are growing. When we make Sur offerings with compassion, they help us overcome death, protect us from illness, and drive away harmful spirits and demons. They also bring favorable conditions into our daily lives. Most importantly, we should practice it sincerely and with dedication.”
